Pallister Government’s Plan to Shut Winnipeg Emergency Rooms Will Undermine Patient Care; a Broken Promise

The NDP condemns the Pallister government’s plan to shut down emergency rooms in Winnipeg – a move that will undermine patient care across Winnipeg, Health Critic Matt Wiebe said.

“The Pallister government introduced a plan today that will force more patients to use fewer emergency rooms without adding more resources to those surviving hospitals,” Wiebe said. “Cutting emergency rooms does not help families get the care they need when they need it.”

NDP Calls on Pallister Government to Defend Public Health-Care System; End Agenda of Cuts

The Pallister government must defend the public health-care system by closing the door on credit-card medicine and by reversing its agenda of privatization and cuts to health services for families across the province, NDP Health Critic Matt Wiebe said today.

“The premier is closing a Quick Care Clinic and threatening to close access centres and emergency rooms,” Wiebe said. “It seems the only solution the premier has for health care is to open the door to private medicine available only to those who can pay.”

Health Minister Must Stop Delaying Repayment to Heart Attack Patient on Hook for $118,000 Bill

Health Minister Kelvin Goertzen should stop dragging his feet and cover the exorbitant medical bill a Sprague man who suffered a heart attack and is saddled with a $118,000 medical bill after he was taken to a U.S. hospital, NDP health critic Matt Wiebe said today. He’s also refusing to say whether he will do anything to prevent other Manitobans from ending up with the same unfair burden due to a health crisis, Wiebe added.

NDP Calls on Pallister Government to Honour Vow To Build Personal Care Homes

The NDP is calling on the Pallister government to honour its promise to quickly build 1,200 personal care home beds to meet the growing needs of families and communities, Health Critic Matt Wiebe said today.

“In his mandate letter to the minister, the premier directed him to ‘fast-track the construction of 1,200 new personal care home beds’ but not one new bed is underway a year later,” Wiebe said. “Instead of action, the health minister has thrown roadblocks in the way of any construction, shutting down PCH construction across the province.”

NDP calls on Pallister government to come clean on health cuts

Today, the NDP is calling on the Pallister government to be transparent and honest about cuts it’s making to health-care services across the province, Health Critic Matt Wiebe said.

“The Pallister government has ordered regional health authorities to make deep cuts but has refused to tell families what those cuts will be,” Wiebe said. “We call on the premier to be honest and tell families exactly what services will be cut and who will be affected.”
