Giving our kids the start they deserve

Every parent wants the very best possible start in life for his or her child. That means ensuring their kids can get a quality education that will prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow.

Greg Selinger and your NDP understand that. That’s why we’ve increased funding for Manitoba schools in each of the last 12 years.

Together we’ve built or modernized more schools in communities like yours. And we’ve increased graduation rates to the highest levels we’ve seen in decades.

But there’s more to do. We’ll continue to invest in our classrooms and we’ll help parents help their kids succeed.

Working together, we can ensure that more kids are finishing school, entering college or university and finding good jobs right here in Manitoba.

Hugh McFadyen and the PCs don’t seem to get it.

For Hugh McFadyen, cutting budgets is more important than investing in our schools.

His push in the legislature to cut nearly half a billion dollars from the budget would have over-packed our classrooms and denied teachers the resources they need to teach our kids.

Manitobans know that’s wrong. When it comes to building our kids’ future, we just can’t count on Hugh McFadyen.

Let’s keep building and improving our schools.

• Investing in school buildings to ensure our kids are learning in safe and healthy classrooms;
• Creating plain-language, parent-friendly report cards to help parents better understand and support their child’s progress;
• Standardizing in-service days to help parents better coordinate their schedules;
• Strengthening the rules to ensure educators and parents have a say when deciding if a student is held back;
• Encouraging our kids to make healthy choices and stay physically active; and
• Keeping students in school until they’re 18 because we won’t give up on ANY of our kids.
