"Rossmere is an active, hard working community – my job is to deliver the funding and resources to keep us moving on the right track with new health care, education and community services for local families."
A long-time resident of North Kildonan, Erna was elected to represent the residents of Rossmere in 2007. In 2008, she was also selected as the NDP Caucus Chair.
Prior to seeking elected office, Erna was a teacher for thirty-four years. She received both a Bachelor of Home Economics and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba. She has taught Home Economics, Child Development, Family Studies and Nutrition. Her last teaching assignment was at the Adolescent Parent Centre, an alternative program by which young mothers are able to complete their high school education. She is proud that her role as an MLA allows her to continue working for families.
In addition to her responsibilities as Caucus Chair, she is a member of the Legislative Assembly Management Commission and the Public Accounts Committee. She has also chaired the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba Special Committee on Senate Reform.
