Pallister Government Review of Libraries Raises Fears of Service Cuts: Marcelino

The NDP is urging the Pallister government to guarantee that the review of the provincial library system doesn’t result in a reduction of services for Manitobans, NDP Interim Leader Flor Marcelino said today.

“We have seen now how this government says one thing and does another. In yesterday’s throne speech, the government said they were going to apply a ‘return-on-investment test to prioritize government investments in … social and cultural projects’,” Marcelino said. “We are deeply concerned what this will mean for valuable social and cultural assets like libraries.”

NDP will continue supporting jobs and opportunities in arts and culture with $4 million boost

Today’s NDP will increase yearly funding to arts and cultural organizations by $4 million to keep creating and supporting good jobs in the arts, NDP Leader Greg Selinger said today.

“The arts make an invaluable contribution to our society,” Selinger said. “Our province has a thriving arts and culture sector, that helps grow our economy and puts us on the map. National Geographic just named Winnipeg one of its Best Trips of 2016—the only Canadian city to make the list.”

NDP will make new investments to support good jobs in Manitoba's thriving film industry

Today’s NDP will give new supports to our film industry by introducing new incentives to attract a direct flight to Los Angeles, make the Manitoba Film and Video Production Tax Credit permanent, and upgrade the Manitoba Production Centre, NDP Leader Greg Selinger said today.

“Investing in the film production is good business,” Selinger said. “We’re committed to creating good, local jobs in the film industry and growing opportunities here at home.”
