Thriving rural communities

Our rural communities and farms are an important part of who we are as Manitobans.

Greg Selinger and your NDP understand that families living in rural communities expect nothing more than leadership that will give their family access to the same services other Manitobans enjoy, close to home.

That’s why we’ve built and modernized rural schools and hospitals – and increased child care spaces. We’ve funded improvements to community recreation centres and water treatment facilities. And we’ve repaired or upgraded over 6,000 km of roads and bridges in every region.

This year, many families living in rural communities were hit hard by the flood – the largest in Manitoba’s history. In some cases, homes and cherished memories were lost to the water and farmers and producers saw their lands go unseeded.

Your NDP MLAs are working to support families and producers each step of the way with help to protect homes for the future, repair damaged property and get farmers and producers through these difficult times.

Hugh McFadyen’s PCs aren’t interested in building our rural communities.

Not long ago, Hugh McFadyen’s lead MLA on rural initiatives said that his party was setting aside agricultural issues and projects that help keep rural families in their communities because they can’t, “win an election based on those issues.”

And when the flood waters came, Hugh McFadyen chose political grandstanding and attacks on provincial staff instead of offering solutions.

It’s no wonder that some people are saying Hugh McFadyen and the PCs seem to care more about their own careers than about rural families.

Let’s keep building and improving our rural communities.

With smart, practical solutions, Greg Selinger and your NDP are:

  • Providing support for livestock and crop producers to recover from unprecedented flooding with the AgriRecovery Program totaling $194 million;
  • Standing up for farmers’ rights and the Canadian Wheat Board – defending the single desk;
  • Helping farmers expand their markets and giving them a hand when they need it most with provincial insurance and income support programs;
  • Expanding and improving health care, education and child care services in rural communities;
  • Connecting even more rural communities with the next five year highway renewal plan; and
  • Investing in rural recreation facilities, giving families more options in their community.

Together, we can keep Manitoba on track and moving forward. Let’s keep building. Don’t turn back.
