NDP Names New Caucus Chair & New Roles: Marcelino

The NDP has named a new caucus chair and new roles for two MLAs, Interim Leader Flor Marcelino said today.

The new caucus roles take effect immediately and include:

  • Tom Lindsey, MLA for Flin Flon, will assume the role of caucus chair;
  • James Allum, MLA for Fort Garry-Riverview, will add the critic role for Growth, Enterprise and Trade to his other duties; and
  • Nahanni Fontaine, MLA for St. Johns, will add the critic role for Children and Youth Opportunities to her other duties.

Pallister Shows Disrespect for Frontline Workers With Single-minded Focus on Austerity: Lindsey

The Pallister government has once again showed its disrespect for frontline workers and their unions by refusing to work with them in good faith, NDP MLA Tom Lindsey said today.

“While we’re happy the government has finally met with labour leaders – nearly eight months after being elected – today’s meeting with Finance Minister Cameron Friesen appears to be nothing but a smokescreen with a predetermined outcome,” Lindsey said. “Despite his earlier promises, the premier didn’t bother to attend the meeting. It’s clear he’s not interested in listening to the concerns of frontline workers and doesn’t want their input into government policy. It’s also clear he’s setting the stage for tearing up contracts, freezing wages and cutting services.”

Response to the Pallister Government's Second Quarter Financial Report

Today’s report by the Pallister government is disappointing but not surprising. It’s more evidence of an austerity agenda that is shedding good jobs and making life harder for Manitoba families.

Since May, Manitoba has lost nearly 14,000 full-time jobs. This government has the worst record on creating full-time jobs west of New Brunswick and today’s update confirms that Manitoba’s projected employment forecast is negative for the year. This is combined with a minimum-wage freeze, a concerted government attack on front-line workers and a significant cut in infrastructure spending.
